The Malta Beach Soccer League is heating up fast. Swieqi United and Ħamrun SC are dominating the early action with powerful wins and standout players. With hat-tricks, shootouts, and plenty of goals, this season is off to a flying start.
Women’s League: Swieqi United Still Untouchable
Swieqi United are on a roll, four matches, four wins, and they’ve racked up an impressive 11 goals in just two recent outings. They’re sitting comfortably at the top of the Beach Soccer league and showing no signs of letting up.
Against Zero Sei, it was all about Vanessa Carneiro, who scored a hat-trick to lead her team to a 5–1 win.
Valentina Cabrales Ojeda and Michela Felice also got on the scoresheet, while Rocio Robles scored the only goal for Zero Sei.
Next, Swieqi went full throttle in a 6–0 victory over Lija Athletic. Carneiro added two more goals to her tally, while Oriana Bedingfield, Michela Felice, Amy Abdilla, and Mari Oliveira each found the net in a complete team performance.
One of the most dramatic matches so far saw St George’s and Parr Mela end 5–5 in regular time.
Shakira Bugeja and Liliana Cohete each scored a brace, while Edera Marmara added another for St George’s.
Parr Mela fought back with four goals from Edna Vargas and an own goal to tie it up. In the end, it went to penalties, and Parr Mela clinched it 4–3 in the shootout.
St George’s came out swinging in their next game, taking a dominant 7–1 win over Zero Sei.
Cherise Zammit and Laury Carrasco both bagged braces, with Ilenia Navarro, Estefany Colomenarez, and Lilian Coherte also getting in on the action.
Men’s League: Ħamrun SC Stay Unbeaten and Mean Business
Ħamrun SC are looking like serious title contenders in the men’s national Beach Soccer Championship.
Under coach Joel Winters, they’ve had a perfect start—winning both of their opening matches.
First, they powered past Sliema Beach Soccer with a 6–3 win, thanks to a double from Nezar Abouaisha and goals by Lee Joe Schembri, Faisal Alnakua, Antonello Demanuele, and Chris Baker. Sliema responded with two goals from Nigel Spiteri and one from Brandon Bray, but it wasn’t enough.
Then came a tense face-off against La Playa de Arena, last year’s finalists. Ħamrun won 6–4, with standout performances from Chris Baker and Abouaisha, each scoring twice again. Goals from Faisal Alnakua and Kyle Bartolo sealed the deal, despite a strong effort by La Playa’s goalkeeper Jonathan Grech, who scored twice himself.
Ħamrun now head into Round 2 undefeated and hungry to defend their title.
