On 14th May, a brand new Maltese cabaret will take center stage at The Other Palace, marking what is believed to be the first showcase of its kind to specifically spotlight Maltese musical theatre talent in the UK capital.
In the heart of London’s competitive musical theatre scene, the pressure to blend in is a constant reality for international performers. For Maltese artists, the journey often involves a delicate balance between professional assimilation and maintaining their cultural roots. This May, a group of trailblazing creatives is shifting the narrative, refusing to let their heritage be sidelined.
Reclaiming the Narrative
The production was born from a shared vision among producers Michela Agius, Miriana Pavia, and Matthew Cassar. After experiencing the nuances of the London industry firsthand, the trio felt a collective responsibility to create a platform that celebrates the Maltese identity rather than asking artists to hide it.
“In an industry where performers are often expected to assimilate, this cabaret gives importance to our culture and the unique paths we have each taken,” the producers noted.

A Journey of Identity and Music
The performance is designed as an exploration of the immigrant artist’s life tracing the trajectory from leaving the shores of Malta to navigating the saturated London market. The evening promises to be a celebration of the challenges and individuality that shape the Maltese creative community.
The program will feature a diverse musical palette, including:
-
West End Classics: Hits from beloved musical theatre productions.
-
Maltese Literature: Incorporating Maltese writing into the performance.
-
Original Works: New compositions written by the artists themselves.

The Artists Under the Spotlight
The showcase features seven Maltese artists who have been carving out successful careers within the UK industry:
-
Yandrick Agius
-
Laura Buhagiar
-
Hollie Cassar
-
Francesca Fenech
-
Paolo Micallef
-
Miriana Pavia
-
Michela Agius
The production is further bolstered by the support of Nicky Gambin and the generosity of Janetha Stubbs.

A Historic Milestone
By self producing this event, Agius, Pavia, and Cassar are breaking new ground. This cabaret represents a significant milestone for Maltese representation in London, offering a rare opportunity for audiences to witness the specific fusion of Mediterranean spirit and professional musical theatre excellence.
Tickets for the performance on 14th May are currently available through The Other Palace website.
