The cast of Post Mortem Productions’ contemporary production of Love’s Labour’s Lost prepares to take to the stage this weekend.
The company has reimagined one of Shakespeare’s lesser-known comedies for modern audiences, with the aim of making the classic text accessible, engaging and entertaining for everyone. Packed with humour, unexpected twists and plenty of fun surprises, the production offers a fresh perspective on the timeless story of romance, friendship and mistaken identities.
One of the most distinctive aspects of this production is its setting. Rather than staging the play in a conventional theatre, the creative team deliberately chose Cafe Riche in Birgu for its stunning courtyard.
“We were very insistent that the play should take place in a courtyard,” the production team explains. Not only does it provide a visually beautiful backdrop, but it also allows them to play with the space in creative ways and deliver the most interesting show possible.
The unique venue transforms the audience experience, creating an intimate atmosphere where Shakespeare’s wit unfolds in an immersive setting beneath the open sky.
Directed and produced by Post Mortem Productions founders Amy Jo Camilleri, Melissa Mercieca and Greta Holland, the cast features Amy Jo Camilleri, Myron Ellul, Stefan Galea, Greta Holland, Eva Mallia Consiglio, Melissa Mercieca, Luca Piccinino, Shaun Rizzo and Martina Schembri.
