The Maltese government has officially opened the tender process for the construction of the Sir Temi Zammit Hospital.
A specialized 300-bed facility located within the St. Vincent de Paul complex. This project marks the introduction of a completely new tier of healthcare in Malta: intermediate care.

Prime Minister Robert Abela described the new hospital as the “bridge” between home based care and acute hospital treatment. The initiative follows a highly successful pilot project launched in 2024, which evolved from a 16-bed unit to a 40-bed facility at the Rużar Briffa complex.

Key Highlights of the Project:
-
Capacity: 300 beds dedicated to recovery and stabilization.
-
Investment: Part of a massive €1.3 billion long-term project.
-
Purpose: To prevent the deterioration of medical conditions and help patients transition back to independent living.

Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Jo Etienne Abela, emphasized that this facility is designed to offer focused care that prevents unnecessary hospital stays, ensuring that elderly patients receive specialized attention in a modern setting that mirrors international standards.
