QLZH Foundation teams up with local divers and volunteers to clean up Malta’s seabed — and the results are seriously impressive.
On Saturday 28th June 2025, the QLZH Foundation hosted its 9th Ocean Bed Clean-Up, and this one made serious waves. More than 1,200kg of waste — that’s over a tonne — was cleared from the seabed and coastline at Xemxija Quay by a team of passionate volunteers, divers, and locals who showed up with one mission: to take action for our environment.
The initiative, which got a spotlight on Vibe FM ahead of the big day, wasn’t just about collecting rubbish — it was about community, awareness, and showing that you can care for the planet and still have a blast doing it. With live music playing in the background, a good crowd turned up to help, vibe, and make a real difference.
From tyres to tangled fishing nets and plastic bottles, the volunteers removed items that don’t belong in our oceans. Divers worked below the surface, while helpers on land sorted and weighed the waste as it came in. The atmosphere felt more like a community festival than a clean-up — full of energy, purpose, and positivity.
“This event showed that protecting the environment can be fun and meaningful,” said Steve Mercieca, Co-Founder of the QLZH Foundation, during his Vibe FM interview.
The Foundation also thanked its sponsors, supporters, and every single volunteer who made the event happen. They’ve promised to keep pushing forward with more clean-ups and environmental projects throughout the year.
With ocean pollution continuing to be a global issue, events like these show that local action really matters — and that the Maltese community isn’t afraid to roll up its sleeves.
