Shining a light on Malta’s financial heroes transforming how we learn, talk, and think about money.
Let’s talk money—because now more than ever, it matters.
Financial education is finally getting the spotlight it deserves in Malta—and JA Malta is leading the charge. The organisation has just kicked off nominations for the 2025 Financial Capability Awards, a national celebration of the people and projects changing how we learn about, talk about, and take control of our finances.
Whether you’re teaching kids how to budget, launching a financial awareness campaign, or creating an app that helps people save, this is your time to be seen and celebrated.
Why the Financial Capability awards matter now more than ever
In today’s world, managing money is more than a life skill—it’s a survival tool. With rising living costs, tricky financial products, and global uncertainty, knowing how to handle your finances is essential. That’s why these awards come at the perfect time.
They’re not just about praise. Instead, they’re about highlighting real change-makers who are stepping up to make financial education accessible, inclusive, and practical.
As JA Malta CEO Matthew Caruana puts it,
“Understanding money isn’t a privilege—it’s a necessity.”
So, who can get nominated?
The awards are open to a wide range of contributors. In fact, the categories are designed to reflect Malta’s diverse financial ecosystem. Here’s who can apply:
-
Teachers who are creatively weaving financial topics into the classroom
-
Students running peer-to-peer money awareness campaigns
-
Influencers and content creators using social media to break down complex money topics
-
Researchers creating engaging and relevant financial content
-
Schools and NGOs who are supporting youth or marginalised communities
-
Local councils working to remove financial barriers in their areas
-
Businesses and fintechs launching tools, apps, and programmes to promote smarter money habits
Moreover, the awards include three special categories tackling important global issues with a local twist:
-
Sustainable Financial Literacy – Projects that connect money skills with eco-awareness
-
Entrepreneurship Education – Initiatives preparing young Maltese for business leadership
-
Closing the Gender Gap – Efforts that improve financial inclusion for women
These categories don’t just recognise impact. On the contrary, they reward scalable, creative solutions that could strengthen Malta’s entire financial future.
What do winners actually get?
Of course, there’s recognition. However, winners also unlock big opportunities—especially for growth and visibility. For example, they’ll gain access to Malta’s top business leaders, educators, and innovators. Additionally, their projects could attract new partnerships and funding.
The awards night takes place on October 15th at the Radisson Blu Hotel, St. Julian’s Bay. Without a doubt, it’s going to be an inspiring celebration of financial education in Malta.
How to enter
Here’s the best part: nominations are totally free and open to the public. But don’t wait too long—entries close on September 1st, 2025.
So, if you or someone you know is making a difference in how Malta thinks about money, now’s the time to step forward.
