The ŻVOG Short Film Festival returns for its second edition on 24 July 2024 at Spazju Kreattiv Cinema in Valletta, presenting an evening of independent cinema featuring 17 short films from Malta and abroad.
The festival continues its mission of celebrating local filmmaking while placing it in dialogue with international work.
This year’s judging panel brings together three of Malta’s most established industry figures: filmmaker Alex Camilleri (Luzzu, Żejtune), actress and theatre practitioner Simone Spiteri, and television producer and director Brandon Terribile. Their combined experience spans film, television, and theatre, reinforcing the festival’s focus on strong storytelling and craft.

ŻVOG positions itself as more than a traditional short film showcase, embracing a wide range of genres including comedy, drama, horror, animation, and experimental work. At its core, the festival aims to support Malta’s growing film community by giving emerging filmmakers a platform alongside international creators.
As the organisers describe it, “ŻVOG is not just a Film Festival, but a celebration—a feast of what we are as a culture and what we could be.”
This year’s programme includes a strong selection of local productions such as Omertà by Sera Barbara, Outside by Franco Rizzo, Don’t Look by Greta Holland, The Golden Bee by William Cachia (Juwill), and Dominion by Bradley and Liam Spiteri, alongside international entries that highlight the festival’s expanding reach.
